Akai was founded by Saburo Akai. He named the company as Akai Electric Company Ltd. He died in 1973. The headquarters of the company is in Singapore. It is used as a subsidiary of Grande Holdings. The meaning of Akai is red. So the logo is accompanied by a red dot. It made the best players of eight tracks, which became popular in the 1970s.The model that became very popular was the CR-80. Most of the products of Akai were sold under the name of Roberts. GX-747 and GX-77 were the most important products of the company. At the end of the 20th century, Akai limited its product to the United States and Europe.

The Akai monitor was the first onscreen display. It displayed the information on the television directly. The development of new technology eliminated people from remaining close tom the VCR and recording the video, audio and more features.

In 2004, the Akai group was found to come out of bankruptcy. In 2003, Akai dispersed many appliances such as vacuum cleaners and water filtration devices. The portable devices of Akai such as DVD players were also sold in Canada. Akai used to sell the most variety of the units and devices, but the company was not able to catch it.

Using Akai products were cheaper and affordable for the company. They used cassettes and reel tapes. Akai has also produced many Digital Midi sequencers. It resembled the drum machines. Many products of Akai were color television and LCD televisions. It has also produced many audio boxes such as clock radios, sound boxes, and music systems.
